Genders vs. Kindness

Always enjoyed a trip to the hardware store. Probably unlike the 95% of the privileged white men working in there.

Walked in today, pregnant and with a toddler, made a few of them look uncomfortable.

Went in the gyprok section, confident and knowing my s***. Anyone who know me would know I would have been confident asking what I needed (even though I didn’t know anything about it a week prior). The guy was ‘surprised’ and actually knew nothing about gyproking. So asked another guy for some advice, who starting talking to me via the other guy working and made absolutely zero eye contact w/ me. So I made sure, in a super nice way and fully addressed to him, I made him know what I needed. He still remained cold and didn’t want to talk to a woman. Then I needed pliers, went and get some, and saw a bloody ‘lady kit’ in pink of course.

Nothing bad happened today, just society in its prime hype. When my son was born my partner and I promised ourselves we’ll do our best to be good role models as a strong emotional and physical mum and sweet and caring dad and VICE VERSA. That genders don’t matter but kindness does.
